Paras HMRI Hospital Patna is the first hospital in the country to be awarded Responsible Critical Care Units (ResCCU) certification. The certificate was provided to the hospital amidst a gala function organised at the hospital premises today, presided over by Giridhar Gyani, Director General, AHPI and ex chairman of National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers (NABH).

The Association of Healthcare Providers- India (AHPI), in association with Bureau Veritas, has introduced a new standard known as ‘ResCCU – Responsible Critical Care Units’ in India.

Giving information about the certification program, Paras HMRI Hospital Patna regional director Dr Talat Halim said, ‘This is a momentous occasion for all of us. We are trying to set standards not only in India but beyond the country. It would prove to be a benchmark in Bihar for setting highest standard of intensive care unit (ICU) care in the state.’

Dr Halim said, “There was an urgent need to develop a standard, acceptable to all stakeholders, for identifying the applicable business and quality risks in the CCUs and effectively managing them to minimize to the bare minimum level so as to ensure acceptable level of patient care, total statutory compliance and satisfying other interested parties. Thus Bureau Veritas felt a need and evolved a standard for CCUs with a theme as ‘Responsible Critical Care Unit’ (ResCCU).”

ResCCU is being launched with the aim of amplifying the number of safety and infection control measures, Dr Halim said adding, ‘The aim is to amplify the safeguards maintaining quality care in the ICU.’

 

He further informed that ICU care consists of several components including ICU process and management, infection control procedure, patient care, risk management and leadership.

Dr Halim said that ICU is the place where most life savings happen so it is the place where quality of care matters most and adds, ‘It should be well manned along with evidence based medicine procedure should be followed.’

The other component on which Dr Halim laid great stress was patient oriented care with better infection control practices.

“Through this initiative (ResCCU), we hope to streamline and make easier several processes and measures required to provide people with a better standard of quality care and safer medical treatment,” Dr Halim said.

We believe that the ResCCU has a unique opportunity to not only increase critical care access, but also decrease patient length of stay, thereby improving clinical outcomes, and developing leaders in resuscitation and critical care research, he further added.

The new Resuscitation & Critical Care Unit, will provide cutting-edge care services for patients in need of time-sensitive interventions at Emergency Department, Dr Halim summed up.

Currently, Paras HMRI Hospital has 318 beds out of which 67 beds are ICU beds. The hospital has got all the facilities to conduct various tests in the ICU itself which include ultrasound, endoscopy and bronchoscopy.
