Doctors at Paras Global Hospital Darbhanga yet again displayed exemplary medical acumen and saved the life of a 52 yr old professor in Darbhanga who was suffering from acute tetanus. Dr. Md Yasin, Consultant Neurology at Paras Hospital Darbhanga helped relived Prof L.K. Jha of Tetanus and severe symptoms such as the inability to walk, move or stand and jaw tightening along with the inability to speak or eat.
Prof L.K. Jha had contracted Tetanus through by walking barefooted in a waterlogged area. Relatives and doctors suspect that during walking, Prof L.K. Jha ended by getting infected with the virus through an injury. Over the days that followed, he complained of itching in his hands and legs, was also unable to eat anything because of jaw locking. His symptoms rapidly became so severe that he had to be fed through a food pipe, which was inserted through the nose.
According to Dr. Md Yasin, Consultant Neurology at Paras Hospital Darbhanga, “Since he was not in a condition to eat anything, he had grown weak. Consequently, his hands-legs had cramped and his back had twisted. After a few necessary tests, he was diagnosed with tetanus.” He added, “ In areas such as Mithila, it is important that you get the right diagnosis so that the correct line of treatment can commence. Once he was diagnosed with tetanus, we had to shift him to the isolation ward, in which the patient is isolated and kept in a separate ward under special care and attention. He was then given an anti-tetanus serum for 5 weeks. He was given medicine to heal the cramps. Only then were we able to control the disease? Thus, we were able to avoid any surgery. We are glad to inform that he is in a much better off condition and does not depend on anyone to be fed.”
Dr. Yasin further informed that tetanus is caused due to spores of a bacteria found in animal droppings, which when coming in contact with a cut or wound on the human body, results in the disease. Hence, people must take extra care to avoid walking through waterlogging.
Today Prof L.K. Jha is feeling better and has regained his ability to walk and eat food. He shares, “ I am really thankful to the doctors at Paras for providing me the right medical expertise. Today I have regained my strength and I am able to take care of my family and go back to my job. Paras Hospital Darbhanga has completely revolutionized the healthcare scenario in Mithila with access to specialized medical expertise and latest technology. I wish Dr. Yasin and his able team the best of luck. May God give each one in Paras the strength and the motivation to continue their good work.”
