Mosquito bites can cause a number of reactions in the human body. Some common reactions are – redness, swelling, and itchiness. .Rarely a full-blown allergic reaction is seen. This could be only due to a person’s specific response to an insect. If you have the tendency for the same it is highly recommended that you do not go to areas that can have a high number of mosquitoes.

Skeeter’s Syndrome

Skeeter syndrome or papular urticaria is a localized allergic reaction to mosquito bites, consisting of inflammation and sometimes fever. It is basically caused by allergenic polypeptides in mosquito saliva, so is not contagious. In most of the people, mosquito bites are a harmless nuisance. But in certain individuals, large hives can develop on the skin where they have been bitten.

What happens in a mosquito bite?

The female mosquito lands pierces the victim’s skin with her proboscis and sucks out the blood. She needs this blood meal to develop new eggs. Once the mosquito has had her fill, the victim is left with inflamed, itchy skin. Mosquito bites are the itchy bumps that present after mosquitoes use their mouthparts to puncture your skin and feed on your blood. The bump basically clears up on its own in a few days.

There are lots of variety of reactions mosquito bites may cause, varying from a small amount of redness, swelling and itchiness, all the way up to those who experience extensive redness and swelling. Nearly everyone is sensitive to mosquito bites. But for those with severe allergies, symptoms can be more than just annoying: They can be serious the common symptoms like a red bump and itching aren’t caused by the bite self, but by the reaction of your body’s immune system to proteins in the mosquito’s saliva.

Mosquito bites heal fast:

Most bites will heal within one to two weeks of appearing and not cause any long-term problems. Those with stronger sensitivities to insect bites may take up to three weeks or longer to heal. Most of the mosquito species are like stealthy biters that many people never notice their first mosquito bites.
