When the world is busy tackling the Corona Virus pandemic, a baby with breathing problems was found to be fighting another battle without his parents being aware.
Mera Aasman and Rotary Club of Ambala Central came to the rescue of Sujeet, 3-year-old baby (son of a migrant laborer). A migratory laborer traveling from Patiala to Uttar Pradesh on cycle was spotted with a sick baby by the policemen at Ambala barrier. The baby was immediately taken to a local hospital in Ambala where it was confirmed that the baby was suffering from a serious cardiac ailment known as blue baby and required immediate heart surgery.
As the baby belonged to a poor laborer, the social organizations of Ambala and MLA Aseem Goel took the medical expenses in their hands. Amid the COVID-19 lockdown, the social organizations contacted various private hospitals in tricity to perform the surgery and finally the approached Paras Hospitals, where the doctors agreed to perform the life-saving surgery.
Ambala MLA Aseem Goyal came forward and the case was then brought to Paras Hospitals, Panchkula. Dr. Rana Sandip Singh, Director & Head – Cardiac Surgery and his team investigated the baby and found that the artery coming from right side of the heart was very small and the one going towards the right lung was also tiny.
The patient was operated and an artificial graft was placed between the innominate artery and the right pulmonary artery, which increased the blood flow to the lungs and the blueness of the patient reduced significantly. After the surgery, the baby is asymptomatic and relieved of breathlessness.
“We never expected to get the treatment done at a private hospital due to my income. I am thankful to Paras Hospital, especially Dr. Rana, members of Rotary Club and Mera Aasman for all the medical and financial support in these tough times. He is God for us and we will always be grateful. The staff was also helpful and we had to pay nothing for medicines or treatment as everything was taken care by hospital and Rotary,” said the father of the baby.
Dr. Rana Sandip Singh comes with over 35 years of experience in the field of cardiac surgery and has performed more than 10000 surgeries. According to him, the baby is going to be fine and may require another surgery later in the year. The baby has been discharged and returned to his native village in Uttar Pradesh.
Paras Hospitals, Panchkula wishes the baby a speedy recovery and a long, fulfilling life.
