Patna, 07 October 2017: For the first time in Bihar-Jharkhand, the Institute of Hematology, Hemato Oncology, and Stem Cell Transplant opened at PARAS HMRI Hospital, Rajabazaar, Patna. The institute was inaugurated by Dr. Shaibal Gupta, Secretary, ADRI, who was also the Chief Guest. Hereafter, patients suffering from blood-related problems will not have to travel outside Patna for treatment.
During a press conference that was organized, Dr. Avinash Kumar Singh, Head, Department of Hematology said, “50% of the population in Bihar suffers from blood deficiency. This was revealed by a research conducted by the World Health Organization. Around 15-20,000 patients suffering from blood cancer and other blood-related problems are found every year in Bihar. Because of unavailability of a separate department for hematology, patients used to travel 1000s of kilometers to Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru to get treated. This led to the exploration of time, money and human resources. The opening of the Institute of Hematology in Bihar will help patients living in Bihar-Jharkhand to avail modern treatment facilities in the state.” He further added, “Every year there are around 500-1000 patients in Bihar-Jharkhand who are in need of bone marrow transplant. With the opening of this institute at PARA, patients will not look for other options in terms of getting a BMT done.” Dr. Singh, who has been trained at AIIMS, said, “PARAS is equipped with special facilities related to BMT and a diagnosis center for the same. There is a separate blood bank which has different blood components such as PRBC, SBP, RDP, and plasma. In case of weakness, dizziness, fever, weight loss, one must consult the doctor immediately.” During the occasion, Dr. Talat Halim, Facility Director, PARAS HMRI Hospital, said, “For the first time in Bihar, Jharkhand and East Uttar Pradesh, PARAS HMRI Hospital has opened the Institute of Hematology, Hemato Oncology, and Bone Marrow Transplant, that is full of trained doctors.”
The occasion was graced by eminent surgeon Dr. A A Hai, Padmashree J K Singh, Dr. John Mukhopadhyay, Dr. Ajay Kumar Sinha and Director, Urology and Nephrology, Dr. Ajay Kumar.
