The second case was of Ishwar Singh Yadav, 64, who was referred from Atam Praksh Hospital, Rewari with bicondylar fracture tibia with compartment syndrome. The fracture had not only caused damage to the bone but was accompanied by compartment syndrome, a condition in which a severe injury results in bleeding in the leg muscle and causes increased pressure in the muscle. If left untreated or poorly treated this condition can result in nerve damage due to decreased blood supply and possibility of paralysis or amputation.
The patient was taken up for immediate damage control surgery and immediate compartment release and stabilization of fracture with external fixator and skin grafting was done. Once his grafted wound healed patient was taken up for definitive 2nd stage surgery and removal of fixation with double plate grafting, With all his injuries healed now, the patient is recovering well.
